Our Rock in Limbo

Life in Thailand can sometimes be chaotic. Governments come and go, though rarely quietly, yesterday's derelict piece of land is tomorrow's hot real estate and all the while what tomorrow brings can be hard to predict.

It is a dynamic and rapidly changing environment and to prosper, you have to learn to move with and predict its changes and constantly adapt accordingly.

However, even in a constantly moving environment like this, there are constants. Institutions of the land that helps keep us grounded and stay sane while everything else maintains the firmness of a bowl of Khao Tom Gai. These are the monuments to the fact that there are things in Bangkok that remains the same, no matter how many other things are destined to change.

And thus we find it only too fitting to offer up some space to state our appreciation for these places that we can always count on, even when the very forces of society try to eliminate them. These and many more institutions of Bangkok nightlife allow us to stay sane in an ever changing environment, all helped in place by one dependable constant: Bangkok's desire for another great party!

Through military coups, New Years bombings, political turmoil and the current demonstrations, the worshippers of Bangkok can be counted on to crowd around the temples of the night, come hell or high water (as it might someday soon, global warming and all). And the venerable Bangkok nightlife institutions do theirs to make sure there is always dependable action to be had.
