A Trusted Bangkok Route
A select venue route which, once properly started, can end up leading you anywhere.
A good Saturday night out in Bangkok is normally something not hard to find. It is actually a promise made by this city to its inhabitants, and not just Saturdays actually, but every day of the week. Nevertheless, we set out last Saturday to go through one of the well established routes to Saturday night bliss.
Our route started at Nest on Sukhumvit soi 11. This rooftop bar offers a private feel with numerous beds and tables spread among the plants and set paths. It is an excellent place to warm up and enjoy some quality cocktails. We did so, though we were still able to find the elevator down so not too much damage done. Around the corner from Nest is both Bed Supper Club and Q Bar.
We went next to Bed which was quite crowded, and this without a host of models drinking for free. A full paying crowd, times must be good there. So was the music so we settled here for a while. Bed does offer a quite mixed crowd on Saturdays, not as sophisticated as on some other nights, but more mainstream.
We also went for Vodka and we can honestly say that when we were preparing to leave Bed, the stairs in front did appear slightly more complex. However, splitting sun and wind equally, we thought Q Bar also deserved our increasingly loud charms. Q Bar among other things boasts an unparalleled cocktail selection and if you are already on a slippery slope, you really cannot go wrong with their Long Island Ice Tea. It is divided into two parts these days with the downstairs being more of a party area whiles the upstairs and especially the outdoor terrace offers excellent opportunities to chill. On this particular day, there was also a booth selling pizza outside and not a moment too soon. The pepperoni seemed to mix well with the Long Island, but you might have had to be there to truly agree.
With the Long Island working its magic, it was also time to the next fateful decision of the night, especially with all clubs in soi 11 looking to get closed down by the men in brown around 1.30 am. We certainly were not ready to go home, not when Tapas was just over at Silom so off we were. Upon arrival we also established that Tapas is indeed another good Saturday venues with a good crowd, and those deadly Kamikaze jugs. Obviously we needed a few of those.
The other good feature of Tapas is that once it closes, Funky Dojo in Patpong is just around the corner. Really no reason not to go there. Now, one thing to watch out for at Funky Dojo is getting lost or walking a bit too far away from the club. The place basically has the function of an African herd and the predators, which in Patpong mainly takes the form of lady boys, tend to attack the lonely drunk alone animals that stumble away from the herd. You are far safer in the centre of things and that is where the fun is anyway, as loud music and more beer is had by all. Funky Dojo should allow you to skip normal closing hours and after that...
There is always Scratch Dog, Sukhumvit or, god forbid, home. Whatever you final destination, starting out on this 5 venue trip offers the possibility of you ending up mostly anywhere, and you are quite likely never to make it to the last stop. On this night we did, though after that the journey continued, as even sunrise did not find all of us back home yet.
Bon Voyage
