| Atop the slim, tall building that houses the Banyan Tree Hotel on Sathorn road, Vertigo offers an unrivaled 360 degree view of Bangkok coupled nicely with a cozy intimate dinner atmosphere that must make this one of the country’s prime proposal venues. The slimness of the building, and the setup with raised tables in the middle, is such that you are often able to enjoy the view of both sides from one spot, giving way for a truly remarkable dining experience. It is also possible to take a drink at the equally remarkable adjoining Moon Bar before settling for dinner. We recommend the moon romance, for the sheer presentation.
Once familiar landmarks are identified and the amazing view has settled in, it is time for the menu. There is both set menus and a’la carte dining available on the menu, which is European-inspired. The meat and fish dishes are excellent and there is a range of premium beef options available, all imported from Australia or Japan. The desert options mainly center around ice cream and sorbet. Vertigo offers an extensive wine list with a good range of prices. There are a few more Spanish wines available than often seen locally. At this restaurant, the sky is the limit, also when it comes to your bill. Depending on what you order, it can get really expensive, however it is also possible to have dinner for two at around 4.00 baht without wine. Should you be looking for a similar dining experience elsewhere, Sirocco and Distil Bar at the State Tower on Silom road both offer high quality outdoor dining at high altitudes. If you are unfortunate enough to be caught in the rain, the Banyan Tree Hotel offers several other dining options including Pier 59, Saffron and Bai Yun which all offer good food and dazzling vistas secured from the rain at the top floors of the hotel. For a similar European menu closer to Earth, go to Cy'an at theMetropolitan Hotel, just around the corner. | |
