Food: Fine Dining, Japanese
This contemporary, chic and indeed quite sexy restaurant is set among dark floors and illuminated by subdued lights. You enter through a tunnel of darkened glass with candles for lighting. Tied to the restaurant is the separate bar/lounge which is one of the main stays of the foreign model crowd of Bangkok. If you are looking to meet tall, east European or South American people who get their drinks for free, this is a good place to start.
Koi offers food based on Japanese techniques fused with international trends, resulting in a menu with modern Japanese cuisine with a Californian accent, creatively and stylishly presented. The ingredients used are all top grade and the dishes are prepared by the head chef who is an LA native – one of the origin points of this particular cuisine. The menu offers a wide-ranging list of creative contemporary Japanese dishes alongside traditional favorites like Sushi and Sashimi. Among the signature dishes are tasty creative dishes like crispy rice with spicy tuna.
Koi offers a good selection of wine along with the more traditionally Japanese drink of Sake. Also available are champagne, cocktails and other liquors.
The overall price level could lead to dinner for two towards 4.000 baht without drinks.

Your alternative to Koi depends on whether you are looking for Japanese food or the beautiful crowd – only Koi can be depended on for both. Kisso at the Westin Grande on Sukumvit offers a sleek cool interior along with good food, and Tsu Japanese Restaurant at the JW Marriott on Sukumvit soi 2 offers both great food and lounge bar, though at significant cost. The beautiful crowd is less predictable but can normally be found at Bed Supper Club on Sukumvit soi 11 on Wednesdays and at Flix on RCA on Tuesdays. Gazebo Club & Restaurant in Khao San is a good shoot on weekends.
