Located close to the former home of this homely Italian venue, the new La Piola exceeds the same cozy local Italian feel that made the old restaurant so popular (the move was basically required as there was never room for all the guests who wanted to eat there in the old place).
In La Piola, the take the home cooked meal to its zenith, with the owners mother, Angela Sciacovelli, managing the cooking. The conversation between kitchen and staff thus takes place in Italian and helps provide further evidence to the fact that you are no longer in Bangkok but indeed in a village outside Rome. The furniture is simple dark wood giving the place a rustic cozy taverna feel.
The food served is definitely among the best Italian served in Bangkok. It is home cooked from fresh ingredients, and often changes by the day. One mainstay starter is the Italian cold cuts with grilled vegetables which really is excellent. There is also pizza on the menu, prepared by a 4th generation pizza baker. And Mama’s daily choices of pasta are always sure to delight. To accompany the feast, there is a good selection of Italian wines available directly from the cases – especially the house wine at 800 baht per liter is highly recommended and great value. Finish off with limoncello and Tiramisu and you are indeed sure to be as full as can be. La Piola is definitely among the most authentic opportunities for a true Italian meal in Bangkok, and food and atmosphere go hand in hand to ensure the complete Italian experience.
Expect two persons to pay around 2.200 baht for 3 courses.

Should La Piola be full, possible alternatives include La Buca is sukumvit soi 1 which is run by Mr. Oresta, formerly of La Piola. If you are mostly interested in Pizza, Bella Napoli in Sukumvit soi 31 offers great pies in Trattoria surroundings. Or for a nearby Italian food fix, Limoncello just up the road on Sukumvit soi 11 offers a good wide menu.
