| Le Café Siam is set in a beautifully restored 2 storey grand colonial-style house. Beautifully lit with accent lighting among numerous trees, the restaurant is as if taken directly from the New Orleans French quarter. The outside of the house is covered by a terrace offering excellent seating for al fresco dining. The house was originally built in 1921 by an engineer with the Royal Railway of Siam. The inside of the restaurant offers an eclectic mix of artifacts and antiques along with Chinese-style lamp shades to set the mood. Le Café Siam offers two full menus, one French and one Thai. The French is still the best developed of these and includes dishes like pan-fried duck with foie grass and an excellent lamb stew. The French menu also offers some pasta dishes. The upstairs contains a number of rooms with upholstered sofas and stuffed chairs – a good place to take your desert. Le Café Siam offers a medium sized wine list which includes some good value French picks. Without the wine, expect to pay about 2.400 for dinner for two. Alternatives for Le Café Siam depends on which aspect you are looking for. For another romantic Thai dining spot, try out Riverbar or maybe Kinnaree. For an alternative French dining experience, try nearby Indigo in soi Convent or travel the other way to Mes Amis in Thong Lor soi 5. | |
