dusit

Entering the Dusit district, you are forgiven for thinking that you somehow have managed to instantly move out of Bangkok. In fact, it can occasionally seem like you have moved to another time all together. The Dusit district is dominated by official buildings and historical sites. Here, broad avenues with equally well maintained pedestrian paths take you around to what constitutes the heart of Thailand.

Here, for instance, is Chitlada Palace, home of the revered king IX. More historic, you also find Vimanmek Palace here, the largest teak palace in the world, build by Rama V. Government house, with the offices of the prime minister, and the senate and parliament, are also to be found around here.

Among the less formal locations is the Dusit Zoo, with its selection of wildlife, which offers a break from city life right here at its centre.

Dusit is not the place you go to party. It is the heart of power in Thailand, and the home of countless historic sights. Take in the centres of power and influence and enjoy the stately feel of this Bangkok district.
